8 Ball and MJG

UGK

I'm more of an old school underground rap connoisseur and leave the modern day rap alone for the most part.

These are great rappers (duo's) in my opinion that have a deep sense of entitlement for success with women and money, high confidence, and an icy unstoppable attitude.

These guys actually were pimps during periods of their careers and talk a lot about pimping which can help to get your mindset in that "icy non reactive pimp" mode.

Here is "Pimp Hard" By 8 Ball and MJG https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7zw5XnSc-w - "and most hoes are like casino's, built to blow something. So anytime a bitch approach me I see some doe coming. My main focus is tricks who be out hoe hunting, but they don't get that pussy for free I make them owe something"

And a selection by UGK called "Let Me See It" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kC3lk5ykEVY - "See, I know that you a freak, so pass it to my folk. We'll be bustin in yo' cheek till you muthafuckin choke" and "I'm a country ass nigga, I fucks wit yo wife. If your bitch come around I'll put some dick in her life"

Another UGK single "Game belongs to me" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32epQgWiGJo - "turning whores to carnivores they just can't leave my meat alone" and "Man I pull up in your city and get my bush on, lay down the competition, take their cash crops, and get my push on. Moved up to a Bentley remote from Lexus Key, all because I cornered the market on that Texas tea."

Good stuff man I recommend checking these guys out if you want to cultivate a "gangster/icy pimp" mindset. Much realer and more powerful than the bravado bullshit most of the contemporary rapper rap about because these guys actually lived that life and aren't "studio gangsters".

Although check out Radengs too and search for your own stuff to find what you resonate with most. That's what it's really about. What you resonate with.

Word.

...

I like hip hop man like the others mentioned; personally I go with house music priamrily because i'm used to wroking out to it and doing heavy lifts building up to a drop. It gets my adrenaline going and is now conditioned to a point where I can listen to the music and not be doing anything and my muscles will tense up and I'll get a mad adrenaline high and feel like flipping a fucking car or something.

House music works for me, and hip hop does too to a slightly lesser degree; before going out to meet girls though I'll take deep rbeaths and actually listen to something really chill and laid back like jazz or something, because I tend to err on the side of too aggressive/dominant instead of not enough.

Yes to all 3 types these guys posted.

I use different types of music for different things but I don't pay attention to the lyrics as much as the vibe the music provides...Modern hiphop is good for making me feel arrogant and confident but most of the people behind the lyrics clearly don't have any game because the lyrics are all needy as fuck.

90s hiphop is fantastic lyrically but the lack of bass and treble just doesn't get me as amped

I love house music for working out like rage mentioned!!

Reggae is really good for neutralizing anxiety and neediness(maybe because historically I associated it with MJ)

but yeah I use music to amplify whatever state of mind I'm looking for.

before going out to meet girls though I'll take deep breaths and actually listen to something really chill and laid back like jazz or something, because I tend to err on the side of too aggressive/dominant instead of not enough.

The image this gave me just made my night! :)

Heavy metal (usually death metal), epic electronic music, and very diverse kinds of rap. These usually get me pretty pumped. But shit like Gregorian chants and taiko drums can get me going, too - anything epic or crafted with care.

I completely agree with Hector here. May slightly agree on the death metal though, I find the screaming, brutal lyrics, and overt drumming to not be so appealing - would be curious to see why you're into it, bro. If it's like other hardcore music then I imagine you just need to slowly build your way up to that genre? Again, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts?

EDIT: Hector, have you checked out Logic's new album yet?

Disciple,

There are two kinds of music I now predominantly listen to; a super diverse amount of rap, and a lot of post-hardcore which is an offshoot of the hardcore punk rock movement, which itself came from regular punk rock. It's an interesting blend of screaming/clean vocal chorus, heavy drums, and soothing guitar. Just the right blend of chaos in the form of music. For post-hardcore, I'd recommend anything by the following: Amity Affliction, Crown the Empire, Hands like Houses, Our Last Night, Memphis Mayfire, Beartooth, Myka Relocate, Volumes, A Day to Remember, Indirections, and a Skylit Drive for starters. If you check these bands out and like the vibe you get from them then I can recommend a ton more. Like I said, I find this genre of music to be the right balance of chaos, let me know what you think of it?

There's actually research on this:

Musical tastes offer a window into how you think

Explains why some folks love yelling and complex beats yet others' heads explode when listening to this stuff.

Pretty stellar that they took the empathizing-systemizing theory and applied it to music. It was originally used to explain disorders like autism, various kinds of psychopathy, narcissism, and borderlines.

Being that I listen to both styles of music they describe in the empathy and systemization categories I'd assume that means I'm high in both but higher in one than the other. Or, that your involvement in that genre of music determines how high you place in that category. Heavy metal is a pretty broad label and like anything it goes from soft to hardcore (with death metal being more hardcore). So, if you listen to heavy metal but only on the softer end of the spectrum I assume that means you'd be a systemizer but only mildly?

What are your thoughts here, Chase?

I like the research Chase posted! Seems spot on. I'll listen to Death Metal for 2 hours, and then switch on Space Ambient shit like Aes Dana or Solar Fields to mellow out, but it's still very "systematic" it seems. I consider myself an empath, so it's interesting that I find most of the "empathetic" songs listed on that research sort of annoying. Huh!

Death metal I love because of my anger issues. The most random things can set me off and seeing red; when my mom started showing me metal as a kid (Rammstein, Metallica, etc), I thought "wow, that's powerful" and found myself listening to it whenever I was in a bad mood. It absorbed my hatred/anger and redirected it towards visions of a better future. If I'm upset or facing a string of losses, first thing I'll do is either meditate or turn on death metal and imagine myself creating universes, fucking bitches, fighting people, etc. It's an act of defiance.

If I'm feeling normal, death metal or any heavy metal pumps me up. If I'm feeling bad, it soothes me, sort of like how Adderall, even though it's a stimulant, calms down an overactive mind. I can fall asleep with a dude screaming in my ear very easily if I had a shitty day.

As for Logic's new album, it's hella dope!!! I love the sci-fi story and the ending of the album was absolutely perfect ("....LIFE" - END.) Already listened to it twice through :):) Perhaps a few too many "scene" songs, but "White People" made up for all of them. It's a nice divergence from all the "I'M THE BESTTTTTTTTT." What do you think?

Gotcha. Seems like the amount of stimuli in the music is what is appealing behind the scenes? The empathy songs don't seem to have a lot going on in them so I'm thinking there isn't enough to capture the attention of a naturally busy mind like yours? If that's the case it would explain why I enjoy soft-moderate heavy metal and you can jump right in and touch the bottom of this music pool. What's your opinion here?

Now I'm reflecting on my music choices in different circumstances, I pretty much always have my earbuds in my ears or in my pockets and I find myself listening to a lot more metal than rap nowadays. Hell, even as I'm typing this I've got this playing. Maybe it does mellow me out. How the hell do we end up talking about the psychology of music on a pick-up forum? That's what life is all about! ;)

Onto Logic's album - I fucking loved how it's portrayed from a future-perspective looking back. Dropping an album, and having somebody from the future saying "This is the album that changed everything" is pretty dope. I like the Rubik's cube skit; "I get so much pussy with this motherfucker, it's amazing. Bitches love the Rubik's cube." Funny how he weaves in parts of himself into the skits because he's actually well-known as being a Rubik's cube wiz. Totally love that ending as well, not for the "life" portion but for that monologue about people pursuing shitty lives and how it's better to live a short life that you love than a long one that you hate - I'm on board with this idea.

All in all, a pretty fucking awesome album. He's got a style all his own that stands out from the typical club and recycled garbage that's coming out nowadays. Was a breath of fresh air for me for sure. Not much rap coming out gets my attention - so far, only Logic, Kendrick, and Wale's albums have had me pumped up about rap. What about you? What's been coming out lately that's gotten you excited?

hey people's thanks for such informative insights and sharing your knowledge about music.I mainly listen to slow music.
rap I like not afraid by Eminem very much ( I have to look on internet for lyrics for any type of fast music and rap sigh!! )
my problem with rap & metal is they have most of time hateful and needy lyrics ( sometime slow music have this too I was hooked up to a rap in my local language but lyrics were of a guy getting fucked up by his girl after listening to that track for somedays I started think I am also ditched by a girl and my approach anxiety come back after getting rid of it so I deleted that track.)
I think can anyone give advice me about music w/o lyrics I am currently listening ambient & some classical music. and I am also trying to listen rap and metal.
thanks again peoples

Ditto to this.... it's fucking dope.

I love how he has an old school style but the beats still hit really hard.

Going to take some beers and a couple stogies, sit on my balcony and jam to this tonight :)
