I have come to realise that normal guys who obsess over looks or atleast feel insecure if not obsess do becuase as a guy you will rarely get compliment over your looks especially from strangers, be that other dude or a girl.
Whereas an average girl will be flooded with the compliments as long as she is decently socially active through ig or work and school.
Reason girls don't do this is because they feel a guy might take it otherwise, too much of a risk for her.
The guys don't do because they will feel its gay, homo.
So its rare and you don't have this positive feedback even if you are decent looking.
Also, being in relationship with girls and casully.
They have very low threshold of looks.
My girlfriends have and even other girls have found my parts of body attractive which I considered are subpar.
Ex. I never thought any girl will find my nose attractive but they do.
Once they are comfortable around you then they will tell too.
Try this experiment with female friends also, ask them to rate random guys attractiveness and you will be shocked.
This simple realisation has made me more secure in my looks at one point I was obsessed with mewimg etc. but its not needed at all.
Just take care of basic grooming.
