Alright guys Pinot Noir was cool enough to let me use his soundcloud account to record my voice since I can't figure out my voice recorder.
https://soundcloud.com/pinotnoiratgc

I have no idea if my voice is good, bad, ugly or what but if anyone has any tips in any area of my voice or just comments if it's good or bad they are very much appreciated.

"In a World" is my last recording before Pinot's start. Mine are the top 6 recordings.

Thanks for taking the time of day to listen.

"WHAT'S UP FAGGOTS! IT'S....MR. ROB!!!"

If that's your standard voice Rob, you sound like a dude I'd have a beer with. Stud!

Anyway, hands down, your voice is sexiest when you do Borat. No homo. (Slight homo).

Your Instrument

Okay, serious hat on (temporarily): your voice reminds me of a "guitar" more so than a base. To me, when you did the "Mr. Rob Sexy Walk Opener"....it sounded as if the energy was sapped from your tonality because you weren't playing to the strengths of your instrument. Yes, your voice was lower, yet at the expense of the more vibrant tones in the Rob Intro sound clip. Think tuning a Stratocaster to D flat instead of letting it ring at standard tuning (makes no sense if you don't play. Bear with me. D flat tuning sounds darker, more "muddy"). You were also a bit louder in the Rob Intro video - comfortably loud. The Sexy Walk Opener sounds as though you're speaking slightly "out of your range."

I think it also has to due with quality of your inflection between the two recordings. Lets keep going with the guitar analogy. Your "vibrato" (the way you bend a guitar "string" - in this case, your voice - to reach a desired higher or lower pitch) sounds more fluid and in tune in the Rob Intro video than the Sexy Walk one. In Rob intro, when you end a statement in a downward inflection, you stay within your range. In Sexy Walk, you go past it, which to my ear sounds "off". It also suggests to me that you may be struggling a bit to get there.

Specific Example

An excellent example of your voice at its finest (to me) is in Mr. Rob Intro 0:35 - 0:40.

An example of a portion that doesn't play to the strengths of your voice, to me, is in Sexy Walk 0:07-0:09. At 0:05-0:06 your "normal" voice leaks out, then you tame it in the next few seconds, only to dip past what feels comfortable, in my opinion.

Suggestion

Have you ever experimented with adding some "grit/gravel" to your voice? Listen to PinotNoir's "Cheesy Bar approach" 0:03-0:05 for an example - listen to how he says "reach your dreams." I think that could be the missing "spice" that would add some more flavor to your voice. You could try making a recording like PinotNoir's "In Bed" to get a feel for playing with it. Your voice has a pleasant "bite." Reminds me of a british sportscaster for F1 back in the day. He made the races sound exciting thanks to his vocal dynamics. With just a bit of gravel, Rob, you could add more of an "edge."

Those are my thoughts.

Rob,

Just want to be as honest as possible ^_^ so, here we go...
You need your voice to be deeper and more sticky and sultry like honey ;)
In addition, I didn't notice this with you specifically, but in case you are wondering, I think it is better for one's voice to not be "hopping around", but staying at a relatively constant frequency.
I felt like you talking in your deep voice was like you were trying rather than it being natural.
By listening to the first recording, "Sexy Opener", I think I know where you are stimulating the muscles specifically. You need to go about a half inch to an inch lower on the vibrations. Does that make sense?

A trick I use to figure out how deep my voice can go is to make many long, deep, and loud sighs or yawns. Make the deepest, loudest, and longest yawn you can make and really say the word yawn. When you sigh, say the word sigh. And really try and make it resonant and deep. I'd do that and I'd make sure to pay attention where exactly is that "Sweet spot" for when my voice sounds really deep and masculine. I'd do it again and again and everytime I'd make a note of where the sweet spot is and when I was sure where it was, I'd try to speak and adjust my throat muscles so that they'd be incorporating the "Sweet spot" muscles that cause my voice to sounds very deep, sexy, slow, sultry. I realized that a huge part of developing that desired voice is relaxing the throat. Hum so that you focus the vibrations at the top of your throat, then gradually lower it down, down, down, like you are dropping something to the bottom of some well, or ocean, or pit. I've also found it interesting how pausing a lot for that dramatic effect just allows you to breathe in air to start up again. If i continue to talk in in the same breathe for too long, my voice will gradually get higher because my body is making due with the resources it has. Sort of like playing any wind instrument. You gotta make sure there is a constant stream of air and that the mouth is at a specific configuration to achieve a certain note you wish to play (assuming one's fingers are on the keys/buttons).

In addition, you need to use that voice not only in pickup but everywhere. I use that voice with my teachers, friends, strangers, idc because I want my voice to sound a certain way and if people are thinking something else when I'm not interested, too bad I'd think to them. At first it feels awkward, unnatural and forced. But over time you just do it automatically. I'm still fixing mine just cos I don't know if I am consistently sounding that way, but I'm becoming more and more aware of what my voice has to sound like

I grabbed some recordings I've made myself over time, made a soundcloud account and posted them up. Click here for the link.
Take note of how my voice changes if you play them according to the dates in the title. It amazes me how much I've changed. But my voice isn't perfect so please criticize me as well! I love feedback :D

Hope this helps,
- The Wise Fool

Hey dude, just saw this post. It's awesome that you uploaded your voice! Thanks for the shoutout haha.

So far, it sounds like your voice could use a tiny bit more bass, but your strengths sound like my weaknesses. Each word is clearly defined with natural pauses.

When I get some free time, I'll write a better reply, just wanted to post now so that I get future replies ;)

P.S. You must live in the south like I do because of the "y'all".
