Hey Guys, Lately Ive been doing direct cold approaches around campus and am getting decent with the opener, but after I introduce myself I hit a brick wall to build rapport. I just cant think of anything to say after opening, and what i can think of is just lame. So What are some statements/ questions do you all follow up with?
Good question... I'd like to know too. I know you're supposed to build a "real" connection and go as deep as possible, but when you stop someone in a grocery store, how do you go from the funny or direct opener to something meaningful?

- What do you normally do in your spare time when you're not doing this?
Just ask questions expressing interest in her, ask questions because you're curious.
Generally, I follow up an opening with "So, what brings you here instead of somewhere more interesting?"
To both of you (MK, and Hugh), after your opening, you cannot deep dive right away, you have engage in some light banter, and light conversation before you deep dive. Most of the time the light banter leads to deep diving anyway, and actually, sometimes you don't even need deep diving to pull a number ( I realized just now that some of my pulls have been done without deep diving a lot)
Hugh, stop focusing on what to say next, and just talk like you would with friends or family. There is no "right thing" to say next, I had the exact same concern and problem as you do now, and honestly, just talk, don't think about how you can tactfully speak with her, instead, just talk and let things flow.
