Party Date

A girl invited me to a party she is hosting this weekend. I'm not close with her but have known her for a while now. She's recently single and has shown some signs of interest as of late.

Remembering one of Chase's articles about avoiding party dates, what would be the best course of action here? Does that advice hold true if she is the one initiating? Or if it's not a huge party?

I told her I might stop by later. Is this something worth going to or should I avoid it and set up a date on my own terms?

I think it's even more important with smaller get-togethers. These have a lot more "social circle" dynamics running through them and you're more likely to run into cock blocks there. Plus, she'll be more worried about her reputation.

I'd thank her for the invitation, tell her you'd love to go but already have plans. Then try to make other plans with her where it's just the two of you. If she's interested, she'll gladly make other plans with you.

On top of what John already mentioned, keep in mind that SHE is the one hosting the party. This actually makes it worse because it means that everyone there has a strong social connection to her, so there's even less opportunity for discretion if that's the case.

Sometimes at really big parties you can get away with a "party date" if you know the girl knows very few people there, so you can easily whisk her away into the night without anyone at the party noticing/caring. So that might be a situation to keep in mind; however, this situation sounds like just the opposite, so I would take John's advice, decline, and set up a 1-on-1 meet with her afterward.
