Guys!
Some thoughts on my mind for today and wanted to hear some of your ideas...
Value is "perceived". One of the aspects of being good around people is letting go of the idea of value and social hierarchies. If you don't see someone above or below you, you interact with then in a better way.
But people in general always still perceive value from others. But what they perceive is usually due to what the person is puting out there, not necessarily actual status.
Here's something on my mind. I'm a professional in the Financial Industry. In my 9-5, I probably come across as someone with some importance within that circle. In some other interests or activities I do that I'm good at, I guess I could be perceived as someone who knows what he is doing.
But translate this to someone who doesn't really know you. In a bar, on the street, etc....
What makes someone look and just feel that "This guy must BE someone!" I know we've all had that experience sometimes with people where you just feel they have a presence or must be important even if they are not saying anything.
I feel for some reason that when I take off the shirt and tie and step outside an environment where I'm known... I'm now just another Irish guy full with stereotypical Irish guy traits, not someone with higher status. Which bugs me a little, I don't think I give off a perception of who I really am outside those particular circles.
