I love this scene. It starts at 21:47. The way he puts in so much effort and ultimately gets nothing. He does a very good job of sustaining the conversation in spite of her being a complete stranger. He's very spontaneous to how she responds and makes sure there's no dead air space. And he lets her know pretty quickly that its sex he's after, making sure he's not wasting his time. But what's interesting is the way he gives the impression that he thinks the reason they're not getting together is because she's the one with the problem, and not him. Even though he gets rejected, he doesn't look like any more of a tool, or doesn't look needy.
Essentially, where he might have fallen down, is the fact he most likely insulted the music which she was probably enjoying, and therefore was sort of an insult to her, and also made him seem old. He looks great at what he's doing, but I don't know if he'd be that comfortable dancing, as he clearly seems like an anti-dancing cynical nazi at the start. I also don't know if his use of "sweet heart" works good or bad for him here!
However, certain things are different in this bar, compared to the way they are usually. In reality they'd probably be shouting to hear each other. And rarely see three people sitting alone at the bar like that! Rarely would you come across a girl confident enough to address you by your name(like this one) if they're trying to reject you.
Love the chat-up line of "would you believe the shit that passes for music these days?" which shows more arrogance than politeness. But I guess it's what he had to get off his chest. Worth a watch!
