Problem with meeting new people

Last year i start activelly socializing,now i got some skills and talking to strangers becomes easier.
The problem is-when you talk to so many people you start to run into someone,who you previously talked to,but you dont remember.
For example you chit chat with a girl,it goes nowhere you moved on,forget about her and after a few months she engages you somewhere and you dont recognize her.
What should you do in this situation? Should you just say that you dont remember her?

Option 1: Give joke answers that are friendly yet obviously not sincere guesses.

Ex.

Girl in ballet flats: Remember me?
Me: You were my partner in my high school ballet show. I remember your shoes.
Usually, she'll laugh and remind you or she'll play along and not mention it.

Option 2: Ask for stories that get her to reveal who she is.

Girl in ballet flats: What have you been up to?
Me: I've been thinking of taking a promotion at a different department. The marketing manager knows how to motivate people. My current accounting manager is calling us by our full names, walking in with his chest puffed like "TwoNameGame, I need you to count the inventory." What are your bosses like? Do you deal with that?
Usually, she'll get engrossed in the conversation or she'll reveal herself.

If you don't remember her, just pretend to acknowledge and start fresh.

Her: "Don't you remember me? We met at <some random thing months ago>"
You: "Ah yeah, looks like we keep running into eachother. How's life treating you?"

It won't make any real difference to the conversation that follows whether she met you before or not.

But i have some situations where you approach a girl,chit chat a little bit and it goes awkward,because you feel like you already talked to her but you dont sure.
Should i just say something like:
-Hey seems like we already talked somewhere,because XYZ?

If it really bothers you, sure, maybe "I know this sounds crazy ... but I feel like I've met you before somewhere"

The reality is that whether she did or didn't meet you, unless you left a negative impression that she remembers, doesn't have much effect on the future, which is what is actually important.
