I'm beginning to become very interested in the idea of meditating. I do it occasionally, but I'd like to do it some more. Few questions.

1. What are the benefits that you've personally experienced from meditating? What do they manifest?

2. What techniques do you use for meditating?

3. What lessons have you learnt from meditation?

Interested to hear your thoughts!

Say you go to fitness and start doing intensively squats and bench press for the next 30 minutes... You exert lots of energy, you lift very intensively, and you will be quite tired... Then you sit down, relax, have some cool drink, you "let go" of the fitness, you "let go" of the weights... It's a good and relaxing feeling...

It is similar with meditation. If you are a Normal Person, Your Mind is constantly occupied with the External World - where to go for dinner, how much money to make tomorrow, how many girls to approach next weekend, how to get laid in the most efficient way, how to pay bills at the end of the month, how to avoid anger at work, how to improve yourself, how to be more and more attractive...

It is Your Mind that is constantly busy, Your Mind is constantly involved with the External World... Your Mind is constantly running, it is running somewhere into the Future... So once you "let go" of the External World, once you "let go" of the thoughts that you have, once you "let go" of Your Mind you will be meditating...

During meditation you are not gaining anything. You are losing everything - you are losing all the thoughts about the External World... You are losing all the worries, all the goals, all the problems, all illusions about better tomorrows... You are losing all the Hopes for better future... All of it is lost during meditation, the External World is lost... All is there is just this Moment, just the moment of time that we call Now...

Meditation is Alertness, meditation is your natural state of mind. The same way you "let go" of the weight in fitness, the same way you "let go" of all the thoughts and worries about External World. Empty Your Mind, become Empty, experience Now...

You can meditate anywhere and anytime... You can sit in a quite room or you can dance on a dance floor... You can walk through the crowds of people and meditate... You can drive 120 miles per hour and meditate (wouldn't however recommend it unless you accumulate quite of experience), you can practice Martial Arts and meditate...

At first, it is difficult to Empty your Mind, because Your Mind can't even understand that there can be something empty without it... Your Mind always have to have something to worry about and something new to Hope for, something to understand, something to analyze, something to Achieve, something new to create... Your Mind wants to own things, possess understanding, always have something... Your Mind always wants to analyze the External World, your Mind always wants to analyze itself... Empty your Mind, "let go" of the Mind... The Blissful Emptiness only comes with experience...

So first, you just relax, you sit comfortably in some quiet room where there are no external disturbances - no people, no TV, no phones, nothing...

Then you just relax, you "let go" of everything - of all the worries, goals, girls, desires... You "let go" of all thoughts and memories... Stop analyzing, stop understanding, stop expecting, stop hoping... "let go" of everything... It's all gone, non-existent...

All is there is just your body... All is there is your breath, your feeling of your body, your senses... You observe your Mind, your Ego... All you focus on is your body only, your breath, everything else was "let go"...

It is just you and your body... You 'look' around your body, but where are You? You can't find "You", or if you prefer: You can't find "I" anywhere... It is not there, it doesn't exist, "You" don't exist, "I" is non-existent... "I" is only a creation of your Mind, once Mind is gone "I" and its Ego is also gone... All is left there is Awareness, all that is left there is Witness...

As the time goes you will realize that "You" don't exist... That "You" is only your Ego, only collection of memories and desires, collection of different thoughts, different pleasures and pains... "You" is existent only in your Mind, "let go" of the Mind and "You" will disappear... All is there is some body, some external object that we call body... The body breaths, the body feels pains and pleasures, but there is no You... It is just a body, it is an Empty Body without "I"...

Anywhere you look in that body, there is no "You", there is no "I"... "You" is Non-existent, all is there is Nothingness, Emptiness... You are Empty, just an Empty body, body that is breathing but is Empty... You are Witnessing that body, you are the Witness, you are the Observer...

...and then there is the Awareness, that Witness that is observing... What is observing, is it You? Or is it something else? Can the Observer observe "You"? Can it Observe "I" in you? Can the Observer observe Itself...???

It is frustrating to understand, your Mind can't understand it, it just can't comprehend that logic... Your Mind just can't get it, your Mind doesn't understand itself, all it wants is just to look and look, analyze and comprehend, create and sort, memorize and name everything with different words... All your Mind wants to is to run, run and run... But what happens if you "let go" of your Mind...? What happens if your Mind stops running...???

And your Mind also wants to run away from meditation, it just can't stand it... It can't stand the Stillness, your Mind can't be without movement, it wants to jump out of your Skin, all it wants is to run and run... It wants to move your body... It wants to create, analyze, understand, feel, desire, call things different names... it wants to Hope... Your Mind will take the body and run away with it, it will do anything just so it doesn't have to meditate... Couple minutes you can meditate, than you have to stand up and run away with your Mind...

You look around and you see things, you see TV, you hear noises, you feel body, you experience breathing, you understand that there is your Mind... But you cannot find any "You" within the body, there is no "I"... All is there is Eternal Emptiness... All is there is Awareness and you are the Witness...

Don't hear anybody's thoughts, don't listen to anybody how to meditate... Do it yourself, "let go" of everything, "let go" of your own Mind, focus on Emptiness, meditate... Don't try to possess anything, don't try to get anything, don't try to own anything... Don't try to gain anything, in contrary - get rid of everything, "let go" of the Whole World...

Excellent post Drck. Thanks for your insight. I've had limited experience with meditating, but so far I've noticed some interesting effects. It feels really good to let go. After meditating, my mind feels a glow similar to that of a post-workout feeling.
