Socializing Responding to Qualifying questions

I have instances where people ask me
"are you good at that?"

Now when girls ask this and it is an activity we can do together (like cooking) then I respond.

" Why don't we cook together and see how good we both are? "

Now the question is
1) How to respond when it's not an activity you can't do together?
(Example :- Playing the guitar)

2) How to respond when it is by someone you don't really care much? (Example a guy/girl who is just a member of the group)

Completely depends on context. You can be modest, arrogant, joking, all of these are good for some situations and bad for others.

my response "I enjoy it - some people would say I'm okay at it but I do it for me really"
this shows a level of maturity where I'm not out to impress other people, it shows that I value my time and use it for what I want

side note - I can't play the guitar but I can do many things to a level that is way above average as they are my interest and my passion - that's the point you want to convey.

The easy one is, "Yeah, I'm all right, why?" or, "Nah, no real experience with that, why?"

Then you are turning the questioning back on the questioner, and finding out why you are being asked.

If it's a genuine conversation, and he or she is genuinely curious, you can have a cool conversation about it. If it's a throwaway question or a test, well, now it's handled.
