I walked in and found my target within 3 seconds.. I waited till I was free from the sight of my mom and walked up to her and gave her my usual opener. When after I said "I'm just kidding, I just thought you were cute and wanted to say Hi. I'm AP! Do you have a minute?"
She smiled, but told me she was just leaving. Next time I'll either insist that it'll only take 5 minutes, or bait her with, "I like photography, music, poetry, writing, and I dream of changing the medical system around. What's your name, and what are you interested in?"

You make it way easy for her to say no, if you end by asking if she has time to talk to you. Ask her instead what she's out doing and engage in a normal conversation with her. Also, your planned follow-up sounds super gamey. Just chill and be normal when you meet girls, especially during the day.
