How's it going GC Forumites - I've been meaning to get some cool jewelry per the advice of this site. Never have utilized jewelry, other than a stupid cross from back when I was religious, and I have this cool black/silver celtic knot ring. My first instinct was to get something along the lines of these: pic1 pic2 pic3

However, when I showed my girlfriend and sister I got a lot of pushback hahaha. They both think I should get something much simpler, like a simple black chain, maybe with a small pendant.

What do you guys good with this stuff advocate? Don't want to look gaudy or cheesy or tryhard, but also want some character and edge.

For reference I am a tall, muscular, masculine guy who wears a lot of henleys and muscleshirts. I love metal, especially black and viking metal. Love hunting, climbing mountains, and other outdoors shit.

Follow your sister girlfriend advise...Russell brand pulls the rocker type seductive stereotype well, look for pics of him (back in the days for ideas)...

For your first piece of jewellery go for something smaller, subtle and harder to notice. In general silver looks better with lighter skin and gold looks better with darker skin.

E.g. The chains worn here https://snipboard.io/hXpx34.jpg - also make it related to your interests or heritage too for bonus story points behind what you wear.

Lastly if you think it looks good go for it. You're dressing for yourself first and foremost.

Thanks for the Russel Brand tip, he's awesome. Great at using jewelry to mitigate some of his edge. I have a very masculine vibe, so some lighter jewelry to contrast with it could work great.

Per your advice ended up deciding on a subtle dark Mjolnir necklace with just a bit of a gleam to it. Tried to strike a balance between peacocking and subtlety, which I think I accomplished. It has some cool heritage appeal I can bring up too. Here Chase describes a Tibetan mandala that is eye-catching and interesting, and is where I got my idea for my necklace.

@Ambiance,

You know, if your girlfriend and sister both don't like it, it's probably good!

So many times I've had both girlfriends and my sister try to dissuade me from stuff that other women find sexy.

Once they get used to it and resign themselves to the fact that you'll be using whatever the thing is, though, they may give you helpful tips.

I like the Celtic cross necklace. Looks like something a gangster would wear. Which is probably why the women in your life don't like it -- they want you looking calm and domestic, not risky/manly.
