I thought I was getting accustomed to spotting rejection, but an encounter I had last night has made me realise I may have a ways to go yet.

I was approached by a girl I'd spoken to the week before. She wasn't very receptive during our first encounter (we actually discussed this briefly because I didn't recognise her at first), but we sat and had a long conversation which concluded with her asking to exchange numbers so we could meet up again later in the night. In retrospect I was doing a lot of the heavy lifting in the conversation, but not so much that it was obvious she didn't want to continue talking. As someone who's normally quite shy and reserved I might even be inclined to chalk it up to that. I left shortly after and sent her a text on my way out telling her it was lovely seeing her again and that I might see her around again soon. I fully expect not to receive a reply.

I realise a lot of lessons can only be learned through experience, but it would be good to know if I missed anything obvious. Holding people hostage in conversation is a waste of time and uncomfortable for both of us after all.

On a related note one of the staff at my regular that I've been friendly with for a while told me she was leaving last week. I asked to exchange numbers so we could stay in contact and she obliged, but I haven't heard back. Shame too because I really thought I'd made a friend there. She trusted me enough to share some pretty personal stuff with me after all 🥲

Did you try to get together with her later that night?
If you mean the first girl then no. It seemed like a lost cause so I left, sent her a text and went straight to bed. Like I said there's been no reply.

In a bizarre twist she's just replied to let me know that she enjoyed our conversation. I really don't know how to read people it seems o_O

It's possible I was being a headass, but the vibe she was giving said "how can I get away without seeming rude?" I'll have to reply to her text to confirm.

the right date makes getting her back home a piece of cake
