I entered a conversation between a man and a woman. The man beckoned me in. We chatted. They were attorneys, and the man was previously a judge.
I asked if there would be a problem if I didn’t stand when the judge is asked to rise.
Interestingly, the woman responded. Her words: Well are you the (judicial title)? If not then…
I feel she responded because:
1) She was defending the man.
OR
2) She wanted to be a part of the conversation- I was focused on the man.

If there is a different intention, I’d like to understand.
Thank you.

It seems to me that she was just telling you that the only people who are not required to stand up when ordered by a judge are lawyers/people of a very high status. Probably, only people who are higher rank than judge itself are not required to stand up.
