Spiked tension?

Just a side note. I'm pretty inexperienced at cold approaching, or rather asking a girl out during one. I've recently cut out of negative things in my life and have been feeling like a new man. I'm finally able to overcome most of the rationalizations that froze me up from approaching and closing. Still much work to do though

So this post is about a curious thing that happened after I asked out a girl at the book store.
I asked her about some books and the conversation continued from there. We were vibing very well, and she got a phone call, I could tell she was going to have to get going. Once she hung up and said that she was leaving, I said "real quick, before you go..." "do you want to hang out sometime?" She perked up but said she lived in Neveda! We both thought it was a shame and we exchanged a few more words before reluctantly parting ways for good.

The interesting part is after I asked her to hang out, the tension felt like it went through the roof! It was not an uncomfortable tension, it was an exciting one. The natural thing to do felt like a quick sensual kiss and it almost felt off that we didn't. I almost went for it but I was just discombobulated. It was cool.

What happened here?

my initial instinct is that she was into you and excited you asked her out. then she hoped you wouldn't care she lived in nevada because you were a smooth, fast-moving guy. so she expected/hoped you would ask "then what time you finish work? we'll go grab a coffee" . the kiss would also have been awesome for her, but probably would have led nowhere.
