Stop consuming any media completely?

One thing I've been wondering recently is whether it would be better to cut off media completely from your life. By that I mean watch/read absolutely no news whatsoever, no celebrity magazines, don't watch tv, don't listen to the radio. NOTHING. Chase mentioned in an article how your typical, pathetic, classic nice guy consumes too much media and that it's better that you stop taking in too much media. But I'm thinking what if you don't take in any at all? I'm guessing you wouldn't be influenced at all by any outside powers so the decisions you take would be totally congruent and in line with what you want to do and who you are, rather than influenced by society and what society thinks you should be doing. What do you guys think?

You can certainly do that. I don't watch tv, but watch a couple of tv series online, which only takes like a couple of hours per week to catch up during the weekend. I think watching or reading too much "junk" definitely influence your decisions unconsciously. I've noticed that when I watch something on TV or youtube that has very mainstream dating advice, it would usually influence how I view girls as well and not in a realistic way. I think it's just important to realize and be aware of that and not let it influence you when a situation arises. Then you're free to enjoy mainstream media without letting it control you. This goes deeper than just girls too. You're influenced by everything around you daily. If you want to interact with the world, there's no way you can avoid mainstream ideas. EVen your parents and friends who consume a lot of mainstream ideas can influence you as well. So you can do your best to cut it down, but imo just by being aware of it gives you the power to really do what you want to do.
