Hey Bros,
First of all I want to admit that, since my 20 years of life I have never called anyone just to strike up conversation. I mostly called for an urgent or important thing, once done just hung up the call.
In other words I suck at calling girls and make them engage in continuous conversation. I do find on text, as I get enough time to think what to respond and where to divert the conversation, but it's not a good way to win a girl over. I also do little better in face to face conversation but not great.
So I go through all posts of conversation in this site. Though I get all of them, practical application makes difference. So I called today a girl and strike up conversation. It ended in 3-4 mins because of network issues. It was insanely awkward (obvious being first try). But from that I understand what points I need to get insights more on.
1. How should one start a phone conversation with her. What are do's and don't in this one?:- Many time I find myself starting like this:- Hey how's you doing?, What are you doing? How are you? Are you busy? To which my instincts tell me are lamest method but it couldn't counter offer much better method to strike up conversation.
2. How should you structure your talk?:- I have read about deep diving and all. But what I figured out is that I mostly run into asking questions of multiple subjects at multiple time. For instance:Asking question about her career, then job, then family, then back to career with different question, then back to family etc. This is mainly because my inability to figure out question to ask at that moment quickly.
So here I felt a need of proper structure. For instance: What should be general start of topic? What should be general first question?
3. How you should respond if there is any communication error or network error?:- Nothing sucks than the moment when you say something appealing to girl over a phone and she answers,"What?! I didn't hear you." or even sudden call cuts.
4. How often should you call her?
5. How should you end a call?
Things which makes me hate phone conversation are:
1. You can't use non verbal language (gesture, body language etc.)
2. You can't see face of other person. All you can do is just hear a voice from nowhere (stupid excuse I know)
3. There is a continuous pressure to keep conversation in flow unlike face to face conversation or else it quickly turns into an awkward silence.
4. Communication error, network error, voice disturbances, wrong timing of call are most common cons.
Waiting for tips from pros to help me in this one.
