Hi, I was searching the forum and couldn't find a definitive answer on how to respond to people talking behind your back in a socially graceful way. In particular my situation would be dealing with a female coworker who said some things about me to a friend(who is no longer a friend after this) that sounded rather hurtful. The guy who she told had a camera and recorded some of the conversation and there was another xfriend there too and apparently they had this conversation just bashing me. I want to find out exactly what was said by the girl how would I go about this?

Be up front about it. Don't fight passive aggressiveness with passive aggressiveness.

I would pretty much take an IDGAF approach, if I'm not someone's cup of tea then fuck them. If they want me to do something in particular then they can tell me to my face, otherwise it's just investment on their part that is going nowhere... having said that, on the rare occasions it comes to my attention that something has been said, I act like I don't care (people are gonna tell me what they want to tell me in any case, plus acting like you don't care usually prompts them to tell you more cos they'll be disappointed at not making a splash and want to hit you harder to make an impact)... and then file the information for future action, be it NEXTing an erstwhile friend, addressing some bad habit of mine, giving some friend extra attention and reassurance, or whatever it is that I need to do... OTOH remember eavesdroppers get what they deserve.

Sound advice guys, thanks. I took rays approach and just ignored it but brought it to her attention in a fun socially graceful way. It was a long time ago.
