Hi gents!
So I have had a few similar text interactions as this one lately, resulting in flakes etc, and I was just hoping someone could critique my technique; am I doing something obviously wrong or is this just luck of the draw?
Back-story: We are both in the same cheerleading squad at university, there are about 90 girls and 5 guys and the girls are always in big groups so I bottled asking her out in person. I even had to ask her number over Facebook which may be a big reason why this all went wrong! N.B I only have a 'ghost' account on Facebook, which I only use to view announcements on closed groups, and I messaged her from that. It has no pics/friends/status updates, if that matters.
So after messaging her on Facebook I asked her if she was going to the social that night, she said she wasn't, then the conversation went like this (messaging took place over about a week, she responded to my messages usually within the hour, sorry about no time stamps they didn't copy across!).
Me: Ah that's a shame, would've been good to see you when I'm not worried about dropping anyone! Seeing as we live close let's grab a quick coffee sometime, would be good to talk tactics as we are a team now
. How is this weekend looking for you? X
Her: Yeah that's a good idea! I'm working this weekend and have so much work due in but got a pretty empty day Tuesday ?
Me: Ok, cool, how does 5pm on Tuesday sound? We can grab a coffee around *snip*, I know a nice place near there
X
Her: Where ?? X
Me: I will message you closer to the time to firm up the details. It's not far from *snip* so should be walking distance for both of us. Enjoy your weekend, see you on Sunday at training
X
Her: Kk

2 day break in messaging
Me: Hey X, just messaging to confirm tomorrow. Shall we say meet at 4:30 at the *snip* and go from there? Sound good? x
Her: Hey I'm so sorry but I have loads of house viewings tomorrow so don't think I'll be able to
xx
Me: No problem, don't worry about it
I know how hectic house viewings can be! x
5 day break in messaging
*We had a Christmas social here, where I ran into her*
Me: X! How are you? How was your night last night? I think all that Christmas music gave me a headache haha! We didn't get much chance to chat so I was thinking it would be cool if we could rearrange that coffee now we are both hopefully a bit less busy
How is this weekend looking for you?
Her: it was good thanks and yours? noo i loved the christmas music! shocking actually, im working tomorrow and babysitting in the evening.. then i have assignments due both wednesday and friday
when are you going home for christmas?
Me: Funnily enough I had a feeling you would like it! My night was... interesting!
I'm not going home for Christmas but I do have a few things planned so would be good if we could meet up before then
Is next weekend any good for you seeing as we don't have training?
Her: Yeah probs cause I will have handed all my assignments in too
although that's when my dad gets back to England so may be spending time with him. We have training this Sunday yeah?
Me: Yes we do. Well you seem like a really busy girl so no sense in us trying to pin anything down at the moment and I don't like to plan things more than a week in advance, I find it makes things too complicated. So the ball is in your court Missy
, let me know when you're a bit more free, whenever that is, and we'll try and get something scheduled. Of course we can always just do the strangers thing, but I find friends is much better
Her: Haha I'm sorry uni work has just taken over my life recently! I will let you know when I'm free
x
So yeah, I have given up on this meet now, time to move on to other more promising leads but any advice on how I handled this would be great! I would say I have good fundimentals now but I am still struggling to make a 'deep' connection before asking for the date. Could this be the problem, or is my texting bad?
Cheers
