Hey guys, I met some girl today and we were vibing really nice. The whole conversation is down below... but let me give a summary:
The whole time we were chatting about clothes and 90s tv shows. I expressed what i thought was pretty direct interest in her style of dress and the tv shows she watched. I told her she looked like a character from recess. She pulled up some pictures of recess characters on her computer and asked which one. I told her gretchen [who is the nerdiest and most unattractive character on the show lol]. I didn’t mean in terms of looks, I meant in terms of style. But I guess she perceived otherwise, because she brought it up when I told her i wanna see her again: “but you think I look like the nerdy girl from recess!” [this part is bolded in the conversation below]
I can’t remember my exact immediate reply - I might have told her i was kidding, but I definitely qualified her and told her I really liked the way she dressed and the types of shows she watched.
She replied by trying to build more similarity/qualify to me. She said “your jacket is from the 90s. I have lots of those!” I qualified her again and told her we were gonna get along.
Unfortunately afterwards, things went steeply downhill. Instead of me persisting, the conversation continued and she lost attraction...i didn’t end up grabbing her number. Weeeh.
Can anybody tell me what is going on here? She’s practically asking me for attainability, should I have given her a compliment and told her I thought she was gorgeous? OBVIOUSLY from now on, I should try to avoid even remotely teasing average girls about the way they look. Thing is, she had practically no emotional reaction to me saying she looked like gretchen. But let’s say I get into this situation again. How would I get around it? And why did she try to build more similarity/qualify to me right after this?
The other possibility is that this was normal resistance, and I actually handled it properly, which was why there was a little spurt of attraction from her right after.
Yadda yadda, any other mistakes you notice, just let me know...the whole thing with her saying she hadn't seen arthur in a while put a little dent in things too. & maybe I'm not actually showing as much interest as I think i am.

Fog: That’s great. You and I are going to get along just fine.
