Calls & Texts Using emoticons or not?

One of the things I wonder about is whether you should always use emoticons when texting a girl, in order to create the right emotions. However i've heard from sources that you should mirror what she does, so if she used emoticons in her last text, use them in your next text but if she didn't use any, then don't reply with any emoticons. However some people say you should always use them. Which do you think is correct?

I always use emoticons, regardless of whether or not the girl does.

Generally if I see a girl not using emoticons, I'll probably try to use less overall. But when you send a text where you want to convey the right tone/mood (most likely sarcasm or flirtatiousness), throwing in an emoticon will help you convey that emotion correctly and ensure that you don't give the girl the wrong impression. =)

Feel free to experiment, but emoticons are certainly helpful in today's day and age.

That said, judicious use can emphasize the tone of your words. or your response to the girls words.

My approach has been to tell the girl that I am Smiley impaired, and that she needs to say what she means. I don't want to be guessing at her intent and take it the wrong way.

Haha, I actually use "=)" for a smiley face -- it's less common than "" and it's my favorite one looks-wise. Of course, for "winks," I still use "".

Back in my early online video game days, I used ":^)" and "=^)" for awhile, but I eventually stopped using both of them.

Anyway, I think that's the first time I've been asked that! Good question!

Also to add onto Franco's great advice, try to avoid complicated emojis (the new name of the century! A girl teased me on this too >.>)
The cat emoji? The two people together emoji? Leave them at home, you won't need em
