Voice Problems

When I speak in a room, where it is quiet, my voice projects really deep and attractive. Even when there's just the sound of wind, my voice starts to break, when there is decent noise, my voice basically becomes nothing. I have to force myself really hard to speak when it happens, and it makes my voice sound unappealing, at least compared to my voice when it's completely quiet...

Any tips guys?

Hey there Dlegend,
I used to have the same problem too man. I'm a musician singer songwriter with a very deep voice, at least when I want to:) the problem is likely due to the fact that you're talking from the bottom of your throat and compressing and dropping your larynx to reach the desired low rumbly voice. Not only does this dramatically lose volume quickly(such as Ina loud room) but it can inflame you vocal folds which will actually reduce your ability to speak at this level all of the time. First and foremost j would recommend breathing the right way( yes many of us breathe incorrectly.) when you inhale do NOT allow your shoulders or chest to rise, let your gut push forward and your stomach be the only thing moving outwards when you breathe. This can add on only volume, but this will add more air pressure to the vocal chords allowing you to reach deeper pith will adequate volume. Another thing to do is summon all of the notes that you speak from you belly button instead of talking way back in your throat where sound is absorbed. You should feel your belly button move towards your spine as you speak. Now here are something's you can do to build up your deep voice. Stretch your vocal chords often. Tilt your head back as far as you can and press your tongue against the roof of your mouth. You should feel a stretch in your throat area, then massage the sides and bottom of the voice box(Adams apple.) you can try to hum a low note in this position then kind of slide your voice down a scale, this will really loosen the vocal chords to where they can relax and allow deeper tones. The next thing, yawn. A lot. Yawning also stretches your vocal chords and naturally lowers your larynx which can create a more "velvety" tone to your voice. A rich sound if you will. These a a few ways I've created a lower extremely rich bass voice and it should help you out. If not there are a few more things I know of to help you out but they're very technical and I would have to describe them in depth.

Hope this helps,
Jake

Jake, you just described my problem. I kept forcing my voice, it was pretty dam annoying... I will try all of those tricks you said, I've tried all of them before(except the yawning) but not consistently.

When you say to yawn a lot, do you mean actually yawn, or does fake yawning work?

Awesome man glad I could help. Actually if you start off trying to fake yawn, it'll just turn into a real one:) haha I'm not too sure why but it just happens lol. You don't have to do it all day either (can I get an amen?) just do it a couple times every 15 minutes in the morning then a few times throughout the day and you're all set brother

Peace
Jake
