I met this neighbor in the mail room. We were both getting our mail . I started conversation with her and it was a decent one for like 1-2 min . Once she was done checking her mail box, she started walking-towards the door- while she was still talking

I think I made a mistake here by following her while we kept talking . I felt she taking the lead and I was chasing .
Thoughts please ? And how could I reacted differently?
