Weird Sex Symbols - What is the Appeal?

There has been a certain type of pop star that girls have gone absolutely mad for down the years (wetting themselves, crying, screaming etc).

I am thinking of people like Donny Osmond, The Bay City Rollers and Harry Styles of One Direction - they all seem to me to be rather thin, soft-featured, amiable and unthreatening (and downright effeminate in the case of Osmond). I suppose Justin Bieber as well although he does have slightly more of an edge these days.

What do people think the attraction is?

I am usually mystified by who women say they find attractive but the level of hysteria here seems particularly over the top.

Ricardus stated this somewhere in a comment on one of his articles, but it helps to be reiterated: fame is the ultimate aphrodisiac.

So when it comes to famous musicians, actors, celebrities, etc., then I wouldn't worry too much about their physical appearance and the amount of women that go crazy for them. It's the fame that draws all these women to them.

Unfortunately, us less "famous" folk need to learn fundamentals. But once you've mastered them, it's not too hard to have better fundamentals than any of these famous figures anyway.

There's a difference between women and these teenybop girls, i can't believe you can make this mistake. I've never actually heard of a grown woman going to a justin beiber concert/one direction concert (other than just to her daughter). Well, maybe a few crazy ones.

For some reason, girls younger than 17 seem to really love the feminine look on men. Facial hair is a no-no. 'Cuteness' is a big yes.

I wouldn't worry too much about this. You're not into these kind of girls, are you? ;P

Yes I know the females in question are mostly teenagers but still I find it interesting that they go so crazy for this particular look, especially as in real life they tend to go for the "traditionally good looking" jocks at school.

Really? In my school, it was mainly the pretty boys who wore foundation and had haircuts every week. Doesn't matter though, those days have long past.
