what makes a succesful relationship

Hi i just wanted to get peoples opinion on what makes a successful long lasting relationship

My belief is that a successful relationship consists of the following:
1)the man always improving his fundamentals and
2)good relationship management(consists of balancing investment,security,growth and strength)

I dont know if im on the money and thats all or if others have anything else to add

There are many variations, people are different and have different needs.

In GENERAL, the girl is looking for a guy who is stable emotionally, financially and otherwise. She wants to DO things, such as travel, go for meals, go to the movies and so on (meaning she doesn't want guy to sit on sofa, drink beer and play games). The guy should also be somehow exciting, funny and friendly, have good social circle.

She wants a guy who is more dominant than she is, guy who makes important decisions, guy who is leading. It doesn't have to be all the time of course, but the guy should know what he wants from life and go after it with determination. Guy who has a spine and stable believes (e.g. political), guy who stands after what he says. Guy who doesn't cry on her shoulders, who is rather strong and protective (which she needs for her family). Guy who is in charge, who tells her what to do. Guy who doesn't change his opinions because of her. Guy who can't be pussy whipped.

It may sound primitive and perhaps outdated but I've been observing this for several years now and when I see stable relationship those characteristics are usually there.

Don't make me wrong, she may truly LOVE somebody who doesn't have these characteristics, someone who is lighter in his opinions and not so stable, but if she has to have kids and LIVE with someone for years she will - most likely - chose a guy who has these traits.

What makes a successful relationship is when both the man and the woman has trust for each other, respect each others values, and strong communication.

Communication is so overlooked especially in todays society and thats why most relationships fail. If both parties lost the will to communicate and express their feelings, you can pretty much exit stage left.
