When A Husband Throws His Wife's Things Out!

I just read an gossip article about how Karrine Steffans threw her husband's (Colombus Short) things out of their home... I was just wondering - if a man does the same thing in USA, won't the wife call the police and get him arrested for doing that? Then how come Colombus Short did not call the police for this issue? Or is only women that are protected in this kind of scenarios?
