Ironically enough, I just got into a conversation about this with a girl I was talking to, she's a great friend with lots of experience, and we were just talking about this exact subject.
When you first meet a girl, and after you get her number, this becomes the most crucial point in time for texting!
If the girl texts you, and you respond within a few minutes over a series of back and forth messages, she'll expect that to continue to progress as the two of you stay in contact with one another.
To get around this, be up front with her, tell her that you don't have a lot of free time in your life, and she should expect texts from you to take time to receive. Explicitly tell her that you don't have the time, so you're letting her know so she doesn't feel bad when you don't text her right away.
