Calls & Texts When you call and she hasn't saved your # : how to proceed?

It's happened to me that sometimes I called a girl and.. She didn't know who I was.

WHAT I DID...
At the beginning I make a joke how could she not save the number of that sexy guy.
Then the call went relatively well.
Then I ended the call jokingly saying something like "save my number now", which at the time seemed like a commanding and humorous enough way to remind her to do so.
Now I think it was stupid though because it cemented the fact that she hadn't done it, and that made her think twice that maybe she didn't for a reason, and that reason might have likely been she wasn't interested enough.

WHAT ONE SHOULD DO..

she had no clue who you were because when you met her you didn't make a very solid impression and thus didn't stand out from all the other guys she met that night.

Very possibly.
Yet even though the "why" might be the root cause, the question is how to handle it during the call, what are the best strategies to give yourself the highest chances.

Prevention is the best cure : I like to send a girl my name right after I meet her. Just say I'm sending you my name then walk off. That solves the issue entirely - I think you do need to send some sort of icebreaker text or swap numbers before you call. It screens out girls faster as well.
