Firstly, the vast majority of breakups are initiated by women. If the guy initiates the breakup then it's usually a power play because his women has begun to treat him badly, isn't putting in the effort she was at the beginning of the relationship and isn't "giving it her all." A guy will then initiate a breakup as a powerplay to hopefully bring his woman into line. This sometimes works if the woman is still attracted to the guy, but in most cases she will just move on (especially if attraction has fallen - she was likely thinking about ending it anyway).
Secondly, women are evolved to move on very quickly after a breakup (See Rollo's "War Brides", Briffault's Law and the Lightswitch Effect). Women are, more than Men, "creatures of the moment". If they stop getting good feelings in the moment, then they immediately begin the process of mentally decoupling their emotional attachment to the man they once loved and respected. This is known as The Lightswitch Effect and it's often very confusing for men when this happens. They report feelings that their ex girlfriend is "ice cold" and has become a different person. It's like her love and affection has been "switched off" (and this is exactly what has happened).
Finally, the concept of "No Contact" as a strategic move to regain power after a breakup is a strategy that is extremely effective if Women use it on Men. It almost never works when Men use it on Women (the woman simply moves on to another guy who can give her the emotional "feels" that she was no longer getting from her ex boyfriend). If you want to regain "power" after a breakup then you need to re-attract your ex girlfriend and have her pursuing you (female attraction flourishes in a state of anxiety and uncertainty). The relationship dynamic that is most attractive to women is when they are in pursuit of a man who doesn't commit, is emotionally ambiguous and can't be "won over" emotionally.
I've made a youtube video on this process:
