Would I have to quit a corporate career to make bartending happen?

Yo guys,

So I read one of Chase's posts a while back and I don't even know which one but it was the one about how to boost your lay count. Chase suggested traveling the planet and doing all sorts of stuff but one thing he commented on was nightlife and being a bartender. Now this means a lot to my 20s because I didn't get a chance to do this back in college, it was the prime gig for a lot of the top tier frat guys and sorority girls, an easy access to the party scene but due to my lack of affiliation I didn't get to do it.

Not even sure if it would be as glamorous afterwards but I definitely want to make it happen, only work like 40 hrs a week so I need a second job anyways.

Would I have to drop everything in order to make it happen?

the right date makes getting her back home a piece of cake

You may not like my answer, but trust, it's what you need to hear.

I don't know? Would you have to drop everything to make it happen?

You can have both. I had a nightlife job and corporate job.

The trick is that you have to be flexible in nightlife.
Bartending is hard to get into.
So other options, like servers, modelling, etc. Explore all options.

And manage your time well, so you can excel in both.

Check out a bartending school. That's what I did.

Some of them let you come back whenever you want when they're open so you can practice on their fake bar.

You can always balance multiple things at once. Sometimes it's not the best route. Sometimes it is. Eventually, you get used to the change and it becomes effortless to juggle it all.

My original answer was a bit dry. Apologies for that.

When you say flexible do you mean work weekdays or what?

Also, I want to try barback first and then move on to bartending, definitely want to make a nightlife gig happen.

By flexible I mean not just bartending, but other nightlife jobs as well.
I didn’t have a bartending job, I ended up with a different branch of nightlife.

Basically you just need to apply to everything.
If your social skill is in bad shape then yeah, any job requiring social skills will do.

If you insisted on bartending though, I can only think of two ways:
a) having a bartending friend recommending you
b) looking up job postings in your city. For example, in my city these jobs requires knowing bartending (you can get this in bartending school), and experience in service industry (you can get this in other jobs, those that don’t require experience)

Peach,

My coworker at the bar I work at (who only just recently left his position to chase his entrepreneurial dreams) is 25, works as a corporate supply chain manager during the week and was with us on the weekends.

He's one of the best naturals I know, and was a very happy, charismatic individual.

So in short, no. It takes organized work ethic and stress management because for most people that's too many hours. If you want to reap the benefits of having a social job, I think it's important to recognize just because it has very fun moments & access to girls / cool people, it's still a job. Sometimes you can't leave till like 3:30 - 4:00 AM because of being understaffed or totally slammed because it's a holiday.

Right now I have three jobs and two research labs and it's pretty stressful, but I have goals I set for myself to hit so I tough it out. Two years ago I would not have thought myself capable of juggling those obligations and keeping up my partying/social scene, but was able to prove myself wrong.

Go try and prove yourself wrong - it's fun.

So I clicked the link and actually went to a lot of those places in person to check them out, bottom line, not my crowd. A lot of those places were very "urban" in regards to culture and that is just not me.

I do believe that culture and the type of bar I want to work at are important here. So far I've approached a manager at a hipster brewery who said he will call me a week from when I did, forgot obviously. After that I even reached out to a hipster bar but no way to get in touch with them so I will have to go in person.

In many ways, I am doing this to make up for having missed out on bartending in my college years and the crowd matters a great deal. I want to do it at a more younger and hipster or fratty type of crowd.
