Would you say "yes" if a girl proposed to you?

So I've been dating this girl, and she asked me this. Besides the obvious hints of her wanting to marry me, it got me wondering...

I told her "not sure." I explained that it'd be kind of awkward telling my friends how we got to be married. I guess if I really loved a girl though, why not?

Is this kind of emasculating? Or should we not be held by such societal constraints?

What are your thoughts?

Pinot-

In my opinion, that's the ONLY way to get married!

At least that way, you can always frame it as something you did for her sake, to help her save face socially.

This ties in with my general thoughts on marriage in today's environment here:

Marriage: Not a Big Deal (to You)

Thanks Chase!

I read through that thread, and it has some really good points. And in all honesty, I really don't care if I get married or not haha. To me, it's just a ceremony. Maybe that's because I'm non-Christian; I don't know. I think what's important is love and happiness, not some expensive ceremony/ring.

Hmmm, I'll try to illustrate/frame that more the next time I talk with her.

I think your question is flawed.

The real question should be "is this the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with?" If the answer is yes, then it doesn't matter who asks who. Although you could consider it a bonus that she took the initiative.
