005__GET A MENTOR

No Matter How Good You Think You Are - There's Always Someone Whose Better... or at least someone who has been in the Game longer, with a Different field of insight, and can remove those Chinks in your Armour that you never even knew were there. The Fastest Way to get through a Faster Learning Curve is to have someone whose been there - done that already

I had a guy tell me about this chromatic exercise once. I don't understand why people do it... it takes a lot of time and there's no long term benefit. I think (for me) it's because I've a very flexible hands, and therefore don't need to warm up physically... at least not as regards scales. However, I do prefer to strum a few chords before performing - especially if it's a different guitar... that I need to adjust to. Also, sensing the vibe in the place you're going to perform can help you relax more.

Long term though, there should be no noticeable difference in your rhythm if you don't warm up.

Chromatic scales are cool, especially if you're into Jazz Fusion and shred as when played fast it sounds so "out" and all over the place, like you're blowing and blazing all over the place. But yeah I know what you mean, it's not as applicable over most music like say the pentatonic or natural minor is.

Thanks Killerman! When it comes to "Listening to Guitarists" I just listen to Music... and try to Create the Chords/Melody/Hook
Off of what I hear - so I can listen to anything... (R&B, Dubstep, Pop, Jazz, Funk, Electro whatever) and try to Create that song by Ear
That's Good Practice for being able to Create your own Songs

That's cool! Writing music is great. Simply magical...coming up with your own ideas, tweaking them, developing them then adding other instruments. Then seeing the final product, one of great beauty...your masterpiece. As for music and guitarists I listen to, I listen to a lot of neoclassical shred guitar players, yngwie malmsteen, vinnie moore, tony macalpine, because I love the sheer speed, precision and power of the style, and the classical influence. I also dig a lot of progressive metal, but also lots of other styles of music, jazz, jazz fusion, old school RnB/Soul and Funk, bit of classical, bit of everything really! Heard some jazz guitarist for the first time yesterday, guy called Norman Brown. Check him out. He's awesome, he's got that GROOVE. You know, that feel and groove that makes your body move, real sexy music. The music sounds like fuckin sex. And that's why being a musician is great if you want to bang chicks. They love a man with rhythm, with feel, a man who can express emotion. Because girls are emotional beings who like to feel. Music is my first and biggest passion. My mission and purpose in life. Without it, life just wouldn't be the same. Where you from by the way?

P.S just listening to Daniel Coleman's audiobook - emotional intelligence right now. Pretty enlightening stuff!
