5 Seconds of Courage
Greetings to the World of Seducers! It truly is... A Secret Society
I have a Mindset that I've picked up along the way, and would love to share. Question is... How do I Conquer Approach Anxiety... Forever? It's an an annoying part of my personality that I want to improve on
Great Question! Let's Break It Down
Stage Fright
My freshman year of college, I'll never forget the first freestyle I was involved in. My feelings of uncertainty and not having my lines memorized held me back. My friend could see I was hesitant, and told me
"Dude. Just go.
It only takes 5 seconds of courage
You put that first foot in, and see where to take it from there."
I internalized that theory. What if nothing in life is really that challenging? As human beings, it is in our nature to want to remain in our comfort zones. But what if I told you a secret to breaking out of your shell... is to just do it. And then you realize it's not all that big a deal.
That speech you have to present? What if you stopped worrying about the faces looking at you, and focused on the material you know. The hardest part is starting.
It only takes 5 seconds of courage
Next thing you know, you get a standing ovation...
That business plan you've been putting off? What if I told you that no business plan is ironed out to the kinks. Just start with a building block, and take it from there. Everyone has to start from somewhere. The hardest part is starting
It only takes 5 seconds of courage
That cute girl you've been eyeing, but you're "waiting for the right time" - what if I told you there is no right time. That's just an excuse until you find the right, and left, cojones. And by the time they pop up, she's already gone. Just find it in yourself and muster up 5 seconds of courage. Say "hi" and smile. She'll know the deal. You don't really need a highly charged opener (although they certainly are fun) sometimes all you need to do is jump that leap of faith and look for a positive outcome. Trust me, you'll hate yourself every time you run into a cutie, and don't approach her. You'll walk away thinking "man, why didn't I just say something?" You'll feel like an idiot. In all reality - rejection really, really doesn't hurt that bad. At all. It's when you're rejecting yourself, that's when it hurts your ego. But you'd never know that unless you tried. The hardest part is starting
It only takes 5 seconds of courage.
The Finale
That night, I rapped what was quite possibly the worst freestyle in the history of all time. At the end of the day, my friends laughed at how garbage I was. I laughed at the lack of skill from impromptu verses. And it was all good. Rapping just isn't my thing. I'm glad I got to share that experience with them, and the story... with you. If ever you feel anxiety creep in, just remember...
5 seconds of courage
I know you've got that...
Right
The Sequel
And to my audience, I introduce you to my doppelganger. Presenting...
Poetry
"Break The Ice"
Will you know what to say
When she comes walking your way
And look for a reason
To "accidently" stay
Maybe she'll ask for the time
Or check out a book
But you know what it means
She wants you to look
Are you an opportunist
That makes moves
Can you grab her attention
And make it Smoove
Or will you put your head down
Ego to the ground
"I should've said something"
Well it's too late now
You missed the train that doesn't board forever
The Friend-Zone is a place maybe turned into never
So while you're thinking about her
Getting all stressed
She thinks about you
And says "Next!"
That hurts more than anything
There's an easier way of doing things
Place your doubts to the side
Break The Ice
