Small tip which may be overlooked by some: when wearing polo shirts, oxfords, button downs and any other kind of shirts be aware that 'stripes' across the body will make you perceivable wider.

Lastly for finding unique items Etsy is a great website. Especially awesome pieces for men and women into video games or any type of community. Be weary not to over do it. The only novelty item I wear is a Bioshock Infinite inspired necklace which is always covered up.

Knight

Do you happen to have a picture of the necklace? I'd love to see it!

I don't have the time to upload my own picture right now. This is the necklace in game however mine is not on a choker. It's a piece which actually gets considerable good attention as it does have a lot of story. Obviously not for everyone. http://images.wikia.com/bioshock/images/6/6e/2013-03-29_00001.jpg

Edit: also smaller in real life to counter Elizabeth's Disney-esque proportions.

What are your guys' thoughts on white pants? I bought a pair figuring they would snag me some extra attention, combined with something not as flashy, of course.

It really depends on what you pair it with. They can look amazing, or they can bomb completely This site usually leans a bit too much towards hipster styles for my taste, but this article has some good advice for wearing white jeans, which is what I assume you're thinking about buying.

I would call it more high fashion than anything. Street style perhaps. That site has some amazing stuff if you look at their "essentials" articles.

Hey, Thinkingenigma and Knight!

Thank you both for the advice! Yeah, I have the jeans and they fit pretty well so I'll hope to make them staple in my wardrobe. Knight, thank you SO much for that site! I'll definitely be reading through a lot of those beginner basics!

Jake.

Re: STICKIED: Affordable fashion?

Figured I'd bring this thread back to life with an experience I had today. I was looking for a long-sleeved henley (seen a couple guys wearing them on the Vampire Diaries and thought I could pull it off) for the winter and found this online at forever 21:

http://www.forever21.com/product/pr...ry=m_whatsnew&productid=2079948847&variantid=

Now I thought forever 21 was a girls store, so I was shocked when I found that they had a mens section, that it looked great, and it was $7.80. I bought a grey one and a burgundy one it and worried about how I would look getting that yellow 21 bag at the post office. Fortunately, it came in a box and fit well.

I tried it out for the first time today with a regular pair of jeans and I can happily say its xcrunner tested and approved ;)

Just walking back from class I got plenty of good signs from girls. One girl was drop dead gorgeous. I've seen her around before and she has really nice brown hair, a kickin' body, and a southern accent (I go crazy for southern accents). She came right up to me in the street, smiled, looked down, tried to say hi and barely got it out. Its so adorable when girls get flustered like that ;). I didn't introduce myself or get her number (still kicking myself for that), but that's a really good sign.

Another girl noticed me from about a block down and smiled at me. Now I have met this girl before, and she's a little crazy (but still hot), so it wasn't a surprise that she smiled, but it was a surprise how she noticed me from so far away (and gave a me a realllly nice smile).

Forever 21 men has a lot of cheap stuff and I might be buying from there more often.

From what I've heard, quite a few girls love the look of guys wearing forever21 clothing (albeit less male clothes vs female clothes). I wouldn't try shopping in their stores though as there selection is so limited, two floors of girls clothing and one tiny corner for mens

Good point Whizzy. I'd only do online shopping from them.

Anyone have recommendations on a stylish type of glove to wear? Winter is finally starting to hit and man is it cold

I've had these boots for about 3 years and gotten lots of complements. Mine are the black ones, I tried to get the brown ones once, but the store was sold out. I also have their Julian boots.

Gents,

Not sure if its been mentioned but try ASOS.COM

Current fashionable gear that offers free returns. Find the size that fits you and get decent clothes at a fair price.

You're welcome,

Ah... but that's given me a better idea... sounds like a great place to do approaches in that case! For that purpose I normally avoid clothing stores, for the obvious reason that the men's and women's sections are segregated. But if it's only a tiny corner for men's... you can't help walking through, now, can you? :) Thanks XC!

On the fashion topic, can anyone suggest a good place to buy non-fading jeans? Lately I've taken to wearing black ones, I like the way black jeans look on me but certainly NOT when they've faded after washing. Likewise indigo I prefer when they don't fade. Any suggestions? Thank you :)

Re: STICKIED: Affordable fashion?

If you are worried about that, one thing that you can do is to not wash your jeans. As long as you aren't doing strenuous physical activity while wearing them, jeans tend to stay pretty clean. There was a guy a while back who did an experiment where he wore his jeans every day for a year. Every day, he would do measurements of the bacteria levels in the pants. What he found is that for the most part, the levels stayed pretty constant after the first two days. If they ever start to smell (very rarely), you can throw them in the freezer overnight, which will kill the bacteria causing the smell. The only time you really want to wash your jeans is after you've been sweating profusely, and even then, you should wash your jeans on the most gentle settings without fabric softener, bleach, etc. That should help with the fading.

Re: STICKIED: Affordable fashion?

I'm actually starting to lean away from jeans these days. They've never been the most comfortable for me to wear, so I started looking for other options to fill the gap.

The result? Find the fabric that meets your need. There's dozens of different fabrics that each serve a different purpose. The store that I've been eyeing for a while, and recently made a purchase of a high-quality sweater was Howard Yount. Granted, the cheapest pants are just under $100, with the higher quality wares ranging from mid-low 100s, so the store isn't what I'd call affordable for some folks. Even then, I'd say it's a good idea to look through their vast wares of fabrics, find a fabric that works for you, and look for cheaper options in that fabric if you cannot afford these.

In this scenario, you need a fabric that looks fashionable, resists fading, and is somewhat casual for every-day wear. Here's a quick photo of some wool flannel trousers that would work quite well.

Corduroy's also come to mind as a possible fabric. Try to find one that you like to use.

Re: STICKIED: Affordable fashion?

Thought I'd drop this gem of a website I came across here.

http://lookbook.nu/

It's essentially a hot-or-not kind of website that not only is absolutely crawling with high quality chicks - but those girls get to choose what kinds of styles (and men) that they find attractive. Another great feature in the website is that it often links you to where these guys bought the items from.

If anything, I'd suggest you find a guy that you look like that has a considerable amount of admiration and simply imitate him. Much less work on your part, but all the benefit.

I've noticed that Denim jackets seem to be extremely popular lately, but while they look good as stated before they are everywhere and don't really make you standout. Any thoughts on this?

You have to be very careful with denim jackets as they are very easy to wear wrong. I personally try to stay away from that look, so I'm not really the person to ask on how to pull it off if you want to try it.

Speaking of shoes, Im very experimental and specific on my designs. Getting inspiration from well known shoe makers boosts my creativity. I believe it's more affordable and money is worth spent doing personalize shoe ( nushoe/nushoeinspectandcorrect e.g.) at the same time wearing a design of your own. I would call that my own fashion statement.
