A very pretty girl I know (just a friend) told me an Australian guy she's currently seeing approached her in a museum.

Apparently his opener was simply "Where are you from?"

I have never seen this guy so I don't know his fundamentals (though I know that Australian men are considered sexy by many European women).

How difficult do you think it actually is, considering also it's full of security guards in museums?

Right off the bat, you have something in common that you chose to be at that museum or exhibit. What's wrong with striking up a conversation with a fellow museum goer? it could be as simple as a "hello" and asking if they are a fan of the artist or the history period if it is a natural history exhibit. If they are, you can always feign ignorance so they can qualify themselves to you.

If it is a subject near and dear to your heart you can always open with how you are a fan or you appreciate someone's work.

If they aren't a fan then you can ask "so why are you here?" with a curious smile. They will then talk about it being a class assignment or they are travelling with family, or something else you can find a common ground on.

Tourist sites are always good places to ask where someone is from. Everyone is from somewhere, and they love to talk about it. Your buddy did fine.

Prehistoric,

I'm not really sure what security guards have to do with whether or not a place is good to approach women! ;)

A museum is probably a great place to meet a woman; granted, I wouldn't start "hunting" in museums on a regular basis as security guards might start to wonder why you keep coming to see the same exhibits over and over again for an extended period of time, and if you're constantly approaching women, they might become skeptical about you.

That being said, women in a museum likely have lots of time on their hands and are very much open to discussion (especially about the artwork being displayed), so starting a conversation should be very simple, and extending that conversation into deep diving should also be relatively straight-forward.

If you find yourself wanting to check out a museum and happen to find an attractive girl who meets your approach requirements, by all means, feel free to engage. =)

Its as difficult as you make it.

I say this because it seems like you've built up the pressure in your mind of what is it like.

Thats a mental battle that you will lose. You can easily think of many things that can go wrong and awkward, but in reality its simply much different.

I imagine it to be one of the easiest places to chat with women. She's walking slow, with time on hand and no competition from other guys.

Franco is right, it is fine to approach. You might even meet a cute security guard ;) I regularly take my son to Melbourne Museum, Melbourne Aquarium, Melbourne Zoo and their other branches (today is Wednesday and we will go to Werribee Zoo which is out of town and has African animals). I have done a lot of approaching in these places, nobody thinks I am weird or hunting. My suggestion is to space apart tour visits, say a week apart. Mind you I am not sure that I have ever actually pulled from those places, but sure had some good conversation. I spoke to a young mum a while ago who told me Wednesday is her day off and she spends it with her son, like me. I replied "dear me, we had better not have a secret affair, that would not do at all!" ... turns out she was a radical feminist and she was mildly offended but we still chatted on and off as we encountered each other on the path. Haha.

Just adjust your approach to the situation , like TwoRocky and Franco said , you already have something in common. Maybe go indirect with a comment on the display and see if she bites and go from there. You shouldn't ever be concerned with security or police officers any sort of law enforcement , that implies your doing something wrong. You're just saying hi to a girl you thought was attractive , and if they can see the interaction is going fine they aren't going to intrude just watch in amazement. Very few people have the social power to inject themselves as a 3rd party like that without coming across as awkward to some degree especially between you and her is the interaction is going well.

Yeah. As a matter of fact I was in a museum a month ago in Japan (Kobe Maritime Museum / Kawasaki World) and I approached a cute staff girl standing in a kind of a booth and complimented her on how smart she looked in her uniform (cute little bowler and nautical pinstripes, pantyhose etc, sumato=smart in JP, very useful word)... proceeded to ask her about her favourite exhibits, how she came to be working here, deep dive on her former career as a Shinkansen trolley lady (squeeze arm muscle, ask if she is tsuyoi=strong, add other touch, eye contact and flirting), security dude came over after about 20min and asked her something in JP which I assume was, is this guy bothering you, she of course dismissed him and went back to sharing. It didn't do my vibe any good, so I ejected 5min later, hadn't had any goal like number grab, just being friendly... but my point in relating this story is security is never an issue for an intermediate seducer. I sometimes have approached in full view of security or cops if I thought I could do it casually.

Great advice guys, thanks.

I asked because I live in a European capital, and as you can imagine, there's tons of museums and tourists from all over the world every month of the year, so it might be an interesting place to add to the list of pick-up locations.

I just need to break some barriers at day game, which is still far behind my night game. I'll report back when I decide to try it.
