Appropriate facial hair for an Asian in Asia?

I'm mid 20s and have been trying out the advice on facial hair. I don't really have much facial hair on the cheeks, so I experimented with a soul patch & goatee and the feedback I got from Asian girls (both within my social circle and also a few cold approach) was that it made me look pitiful, broke, going through a rough patch or just about to loose it.

Am I doing something wrong, or do I fall out of the general "Asian men in Asia seem to do best with women when they have “cool” facial hair"?

Many thanks for any advice.

Culture plays a big role. Even within the United States, the subculture a particular women is in (ie: Asian American subculture) can influence her view of facial hair.

However, if non-Asian women are also giving you bad feedback, especially from cold approaches, then your facial hair is most likely not complementary of your face. Facial hair is a tricky subject, as jawlines and facial shapes greatly influence which facial hair is best for a particular person.

I suggest ditching the soul patch and goatee altogether. You mentioned you don't have much cheek hair, so I wouldn't suggest stubble, as that could look too patchy on you. You may want to try a slight mustache and beard that are detached from each other (not a goatee) like Johnny Depp often wears. Otherwise, forget the facial hair altogether. I don't think most facial hair styles suit Asian men very well, considering their problems growing facial hair, just as stubble doesn't suit black men very well. It's important to accent the things that are best about you and your looks.

Asian women in Asia... likes neat guys. They like little to no hair. Majority of them prefer a clean shave.

The reason why is because most asian men have a young baby face. If you have a baby face, having hair on your looks like you're not making an effort to keep yourself neat and tidy.

I would recommend you try only keeping a mustasche, or just short stubbles on the chin.

Light is right on the money.

But really, it depends on what looks good on you. What makes you feel good...

In most cases, whether shaven or unshaven, you want it to be well kept. A good clean beard vs. a scraggly, out of control one. A trim, clean mustache, goatee, etc.

But I find, in my experience, that Asian women prefer (sociologically speaking, the women of Asian descent who are socialized in Asian culture) prefer clean shaven. I can attest to this with women of Korean, Japanese and Chinese descent, as they are the primary demographic I have dealt with... I can't say for the whole of Asian women however..
