Are journals and field/lay reports good learning tools?

I was wondering, did you find it useful to read other people's journals and field/lay reports?

I am not sure about their teaching values as people would omit, emphasize -and sometimes even exaggerate possibly- what they think was important.

The result might be not something really close to reality and I'm not really sure how useful it is.

Your experience?

Journals/Field reports are used to mostly teach the person who experienced it. I don't see them as a very good tool for someone looking on the outside and trying to learn from them, as we all are going to have different problems. In order to successfully learn from your mistakes, it's nice to have other people analyze and give you feedback on your interactions; which is the use of other people posting advice.

An example would be posting on a FR++ and telling them how to deal with LMR, or a FR+ and helping them to understand why they couldn't achieve isolation. It's useful for practicing giving advice to others based on their interactions, and in turn learning how to review your interactions, but it will not help you very much when you find yourself in the act of seduction while making mistakes.

Thanks, I tend to agree.

Let's see if someone else has found them useful for them..

I find FR's to be the most useful of information. I don't like articles that are specific to a certain piece that may not be your current sticking point, but when the whole process is laid out in front of you it's much easier to visualize success.

You can see challenges and how the guy dealt with them, this to me is a great learning tool. However if someone is constantly getting hung up then it might not be a good FR to read unless you can help with their sticking points. LR's where guys close are the ones to read.

I think its also helpful to see someone else's reality in compassion to your own, especially when starting out.

So for example you may get LMR and you try for 10 mins, give up and think that if you had gone any further you will be doing hard time. Yet you read someone's report and realize that their girl resisted for 2 hours and then gave it up...no dogs dinners or hard time for them.
