Hey MattRyan,
I almost always recommend going direct in day-game. For myself, and ideal scenario would play out as follows,
Me: "Hi there, I must say... You are quite a beautiful girl."
Her: -positive reaction-
Me: "What's your name?"
Her: -gives name-
Me: -give my name-
Then you just figure out the logistics of a date. Get her number, find out when her shift ends, etc. I find these interactions to be extremely easy because these girls are just waiting there for someone to strike up a conversation with them. Always better to get a date right away rather than later.
You can have an extended conversation with her (5-15 minutes), which will be to your benefit if she's not particularly busy, as the chance that she'll flake on any date-planning will go down. But if, say, people are waiting in line at the Starbucks, then you're going to have to make it a quick interaction like the one I laid out above.
