I have a 75 year old uncle who never married. He attributed that to a traumatic breakup in college or shortly after.
Ironically he seemed to really rely on women to tell him what he should do. When his mother died, he came to my mother for guidance and she told him, in no uncertain terms, to grow up and make his own damn decisions. It was about then he met a woman who is now his latest "Love of his life" . I only know of one girlfriend prior and another woman he tried but couldn't lock down.
This is a man who has had Analysis Paralysis his whole life. Thus Commitment was an anathema to him.
