Bumping into girls who try to friend zone

I had a couple of girls try to friend zone me in the last few months. I called no friendzies on both of them, and haven't made any attempt to contact them in any form: no calls, texts, or e-mails. The issue is that I live in a small town and run into each of them several times a week in the street, at bars etc. Any suggestions on how I should act toward them when I bump into them about town?

Be cool, smile at them, maybe talk for just a minute, then move on as you're busy with something more interesting / important, so it makes them wonder what you're doing and if they made the wrong choice trying to FZ you. Although if you live in a small town it might be hard to keep up appearances?

I guess the last thing you should be doing is chatting with them for 10 minutes being exactly that friend they tried to make you.
