Quick question.

I was wondering today whether it would be a good idea to get some personal business cards for number swaps.

For:
- The right style of cards would look professional.
- Saves having to scrawl it on a piece of paper.
- More memorable for her, tied with the right first impression.

Against:
- Lazy?
- You should be getting her number, not giving yours out.

Any thoughts, have any of you employed this? Any thoughts on style of the card and what information to put on it? I was thinking that you'd have only your name and number, have it modern and bold, simple but sharp.

I tend to vote no as far as business cards go.

A much better alternative would be to have her write it on your hand in sharpie ;). Garners some investment and gets her touching you.

I always had this idea...I just need some "junk business cards" ...I need to go to a residential real estate networking party.

Act like you are pulling out your business card...instead pull out someone else's...should have a face on it. Ask them do you know this person? (I think it is better if it is a guy). They will say no and you'll me neither. When you say that tear the card in half (funny cause someone went out of their way to give you that card...and makes her feel specially cause she obviously means more to you than that guy). Get out a pen (oh you need a pen for this). Tell her to turn around. Write your number on the back of one of them on her back and then give her the other paper and the pen turn around and say here you go (gesture for her to write her number on your back).

Fun way to exchange numbers...

By the way I got this Style's book on pickup. Added my own spin on it by tearing up someone's business card.

On business cards: I've heard way too much negative feedback from the horse's mouths on this tactic. As in: "Zomg he gave me his BUSINESS CARD! What a tool!" But hey, for all I know they were faxing these guys love letters and leaving hot voicemails on their Cisco phones. I have just always thought it was impersonal. Hey, let's network! No, let's bone instead...

Ross: Love the sharpie idea. Bet she remembers that guy when he calls...

I actually have business cards cause of my work (sales). And there's no way in hell I'd give those out to someone at a bar. I've always liked the expression "don't crap where you eat". I don't wanna involve my personal life with my work life. As far as the "fake cards" go, I think those are easy to spot and come off try-hard, but that's just me.

I don't really understand this thread. Everyone has cell phones these days. Why is anyone writing down numbers?

Actually girls quite often ask me for my business card when I cold approach them, and I always refuse. If they really insist, then I get their number first, then say "You can have my card if you really want, but I'll contact you." Just like with the paying for coffee thing... do what is socially expected of a man (pick up trifling expenses, initiate contact) and you will be treated like a man.
