Can being tooled actually be a good thing?

I used to find it endlessly annoying when guys would tool me. Truth be told, it's still annoying. I simply haven't attained the social calibration necessary to get around it in most instances yet.

But I've found that when a guy tries to tool me and I do manage to turn it around on him gracefully, the girl instantly seems more attracted.

Just recently I was flirting with this girl in a cafe at the local college. She was telling me about her career, her dreams - all that good stuff.

Not long after I placed my hand on hers to inspect her ring, a guy I know walks in. Sure enough, he thinks it appropriate to stride up to our table and criticize me for "hitting on random women". Normally this would throw me off, but for whatever reason I just smiled, made a joke about only hitting on the hotties, and apologized to the girl about my "friend." The guy seemed completely baffled and walked away, whereas the girl looked even more excited than before.

Anyway, that's honestly the first time I've managed to turn a tooling attempt around on the guy. Normally I'll get tooled and things become awkward between me and the girl... which is quite frustrating, since it happens a lot in my social circle.

What are your guys thoughts?

Yes. You played that perfectly. He comes across as a tryhard, and you an "alpha", because you used minimal effort, showed his horribly poor social-calibration, and still managed to come off as very smooth to the girl. Top dog doesn't always have to win the fight, he's the guy who no one even wants to fight with.
