There seems to be a very fine line between these two looks.
I've been getting a lot of smart, well-fitting, fashionable and sophisticated clothing from Zara recently (really good clothes for much less money than you'll expect - and i'm a student!). I've been thinking to myself that anyone could look good in these clothes, surely? Anyone could come into this shop, pick out almost any clothes, put them on with ease and look good.
BUT you'll set yourself way ahead of the competition if you can actually achieve a rough, rugged look, that few dare to try. I'm sure we all have an idea on what it looks like, but barely any man today can pull off, or has the balls to do it properly. I think it really would emphasise our masculinity and maverick side that a suit/smart clothes seems to cage in.
If you do wear it, you'll require tight fundamentals and good edge/vibe for it to really take effect. It's like putting a big frame over a small painting in an art gallery. The painting better be good, or it'll be the frame that steals the spotlight (usually for the wrong reasons).
I think these following people are pretty much there right now in achieving that rugged/rough manly look, but not 100% there (either a little bit too formal, or a little bit too rough).
Johnny Depp
This guy puts real effort into achieving this look, and is probably one of the best examples to follow. Unlike many, he wears the clothes. The clothes don't wear him.
Hugh Jackman
Brother Sharp?!
So, how do you think we can create a more rougher/rugged appearances without looking like we've slept on the street?
(i'm an 18 year old guy who doesn't really know anything about fashion, nor do I claim to. I'm just stating my opinion on what could emphasise our masculinity. But I could be wrong). We also have far too few threads/articles discussing fashion in my opinion.
