So most of the girls I approach now I approach on the way to the gym, and back. And when I meet them I'm always wearing my gym gear. So I'm wondering, when you meet a girl for a date should you always be wearing similar clothes to when you met her? I'm asking this because I assume that when she meets you she's put you in a certain category of guys based on the way you dress. As for me, when I meet them I'm wearing my gym gear and so she probably has me pigeonholed as "sporty guy" so maybe turning up to a date dressed in a 3 piece suit is probably not a good idea. I however have no intention of doing those sorts of dates as I live by the sea and nowadays it's always sunny and hot. My plan is go get drinks and lie on the beach together. So in my situation should i dress up as the "sporty, athletic guy" seeing that's how I'm dressed when they meet me and that's the guy they see me as?

How you dress is directly related to where you are going or what the date is. If it's casual coffee/drinks then, depending on they venue dress accordingly. You can still present a clean smart sporty image, if that's what you want or move it more to a smart casual. Just because she's seen you in sporty for the gym doesn't mean you can't move outside that. She was probably wearing a leggins and a T shirt but she probably won't be wearing that. If she turned up like that the date would be over as I'd be expecting something more appropriate.

It's all about calibration between venue, activity and the style you want to present. You can always add accessories to communicate what type of guy you are.
