I noticed you also said you deleted your snapchat at one point, how has your social life and getting girls skills changed since deleting facebook and snapchat? Don't people always ask what happened to your facebook/snapchat?

Also, do you think twitter and instagram should be deleted as well?

I've been off facebook for over a year now. Don't have snapchat but it sounds like fun, so I might get it when I get a phone that supports it.

Before I deleted my facebook, I wasn't on it very much anymore, but it used to suck when I'd log in just to send someone a message or something, and find out from my news feed that X girl who I used to have a crush on is now dating someone. I was actually trying out making a new facebook account the other day, but I really just wanted a profile with one picture of me and maybe a short description, so people could invite me to events, but I stopped because I realized that didn't fit facebook's mould, and my profile looked really empty (the only thing on my timeline said "Born").

As for how it affects getting girls/social life: sometimes people say "just add me on facebook", and I'll tell them "I don't facebook, but give me your number and we'll set something up". Another thing that's nice is that I find out about developments in peoples lives by talking to them, instead of already knowing everything about their life and having nothing to talk about, because you don't want to let on that you were creeping them on facebook... glad to be done with that.

One issue with deleting facebook is that you can't use tinder unless you have a facebook account with friends.

Twitter's too much work, and I honestly don't understand what instagram is for.

That's my 30¢. Hope some of it helps someone out. Otherwise it's just nice to throw my opinions out there.

Michael

EDIT: I didn't answer your question directly. No one even realized I wasn't on facebook anymore. One girl I met thought it was weird that I didn't have facebook, but most people will look up to you and say wow, I wish I had that kind of self control. Really the toughest part about not having facebook is that sometimes you don't find out that someone's having a party until after it happens; but I didn't get invited to that many events in the first place. In summary, facebook was a major timewaster, and getting rid of it was worth it.

People comment about it all the time, I just usually say "it was a timesink." And it was. I'm 10x more focused now and am writing and reading so much more. As for staying social, it makes you an even more desired commodity. When people have to personally text you or call you to check up on you, it's greater investment and as you know, that makes them want you more ;)

Also lets you be "sexy mysterious guy who's been away", and is that much more sexy/mysterious/alluring (when seeing people you haven't seen in awhile) because no one's constantly getting your holiday photos or other silly, unnecessary updates.

That's my favorite thing about it; that and alongside that the fact that just about everyone is on instagram or facebook or both... so if you're the guy who's on nothing, really sets you up as someone who doesn't follow the crowd and is different somehow from everyone else on social media.

so much of this makes sense. I really should. But I travel a lot so how do you suggest staying in touch with people when I'm in town? I guess just text and call people . . . that makes more sense anyways

Remember, a lot of shit got done in the 20th century...and we spent 90% of it without cell phones or the World Wide Web (local internet i.e., LAN has been around for a while).

If they're not willing to call, txt, or email you, they can suck a big 'ol dick.

And good on you, Rhaegar. You'll feel more and more free as time goes on. Been about a month now and I don't regret it in the slightest.

My only concern is I don't waste my time on the Reddit or other time sinks like that, now that I will have way more free time now.

One thing to keep in mind here fellas is that Facebook is a lot easier to live without when you're already deeply immersed in your social circle in REAL life. For example, if you still go to college and basically see everyone you know on a regular basis, then Facebook almost becomes this useless thing where you see a News Feed full of people and news you already have seen.

Facebook has been great for me because, now that I'm working, I don't really see any of those friends on a "regular" basis anymore. But should they be in town (or looking to do something out on the town), I know almost right away because of Facebook.

The point of my post here isn't necessarily arguing in favor of "keeping Facebook," but it's just a reminder that it's easier to NOT have Facebook if your life is already filled with the people that you have as friends on there (and see on a regular basis) anyway. =)

EDIT: I used Facebook a lot less while I was in college, but I use it much more now that I'm graduated and working a full time job. It's how I communicate with all of those friends I made while I was in college (as well as the friends I have back in my hometown).

Kind of rolling off what others said and what I got from Chases' last article.

Delete uneccesary time sinks.

When i first broke up with my ex. I deleted the facebook app so I wouldn't check on her. But now that I'm over her I still don't check it because it's not available as easily.

After reading the post today I decided to delete a bunch of the time sinks off my phone such as twitter, chive, snapchat, and some other stupid games. Hoping I can stick to it!

What I've noticed from deleting FB a year ago is that without FB you can either fall into two camps.
You can be the sexy, mysterious guy who has better things to do besides FB. Or you can be the social retarded creep without a clue in the world.
The way you frame why you have no FB defines in which camp you fall.

You need to replace the time you spend on these time wasters with something else... if not you would go back to them.
