Hey, so I've been thinking about leveling up even more in my personal and emotional life. I'm not gonna lie, everything's going really great, but I've heard awesome things about talking to a therapist to get a handle on both the big and smaller stuff. A big goal for me in 2024 is investing more in mentorship and coaching, and I'm wondering if chatting with a therapist would be the right move. Like, is it worth the time to dig into myself with a therapist, even if things are already good? What do you reckon and what's your experience?

I get free therapy as part of a workplace benefit and I’ve used it. If you are working a lot you’d probably rather be cracking open a beer or going out and being a busy body. If you have the free time in your schedule and if it’s free why not go do it.

Some neat things I picked up was mind mapping, breathing exercises and got to shoot the shit about random things. Towards the end of my benefits the therapist also was hitting on me and was quite hot so there was that as well.

you miss 100% of the shots you don't take

It sounds like you’re looking for things that therapists aren’t necessarily prepared to provide.
I would suggest finding someone who has genuine access to one tradition or another of meditation and stuff. My mom, after she developed serious back issues, studied yoga for a while under the actual disciples of some Indian master and it was helpful to her.

Definitely also just get into the habit of communing with the world around you and not walling yourself off. And, of course, divest as much as realistically possible from excessive screen time.

Things are good as long as they re not challenged/not facing issues that you know/you don t know.

The good part of working with a therapist is that they already have a roadmap on how everybody s working and they could backtrack on since your childhood to see the problems, for example. You re not the first one having this thoughts, and most probably, the ones who did this step didn t regret.

Putting it in just a few words, you don t know what you don t know. So it might worth a shot for this very specific reason.
