Context

I was at the mall checking out studio space. My voice wasn’t great today, and I was already feeling a little off. Still, I told myself I’d get at least one approach in.

Interaction

I saw a girl at the Ice Team stand in the middle of the walkway. Super hot, older, slutty nose piercing. Honestly one of the hottest girls I’ve gone up to in a long time.

Me: “Could I make a painting of you?”

Her: “Oh, what?”

Me: “I’m getting a studio in the mall.”

Her (smiling big): “What do I have to do?”

Me: “You just have to stand there.”

She smiled a lot, and I smiled back — but I know my smile came from nerves, not confidence. Usually I do better when I stay more composed.

Her: “Oh, no, I’m hardly in the mall working here.”

Me (tense now): “Well let me get your number then.”

Her: “No, sorry, but thank you!”

I turned around and left.

Reflections

  • My nervous smile and shaky voice probably killed the vibe.
  • I could tell she was the type where a direct “ask out” might’ve worked better than my art line.
  • Since she’s working a kiosk in the middle of the mall, it’s high-visibility — maybe I need to come in with even more confidence and keep it super simple.
  • If I see her again, I’m not sure if I should circle back with something different or just let it go.

Takeaway

At least I went for it. Felt devastated afterward, but I need to remind myself: reps > results. Next time, especially with older/hotter/sluttier girls, I may try a simpler “hey, you’re really cute, let’s get coffee sometime” rather than my studio line.

Perhaps this, as a future re-jig:

You: "Hi. I’m getting a studio here in the mall. I couldn't help noticing you and I was wondering... Could I make a painting of you?"

Her: “Oh, what? What do I have to do?”

You: “Well, you really only have to stand there but the best way to do it is for us to think about how you'd like to pose. I'm going to be starting in X days. If you're around, would like to drop by? [Insert here some brief painterly and non-creepy sentence about how you'd love to capture some aspect of her beauty.]"

[At this point also, very casually, and only for 2-3 seconds, look at her as you would in the studio itself, as if designing the painting in your mind's eye.]

Her: [Hopefully something better than: “Oh, no, I’m hardly in the mall working here.”]

If something better, then aim to take her number in order to fix a time for her to drop by and see the studio.
