Forgetting a girl's boyfriend's name. Diabolical tactic?

I didn't want to post this in T&T because I've just stumbled upon this and have only been trying it out on one girl.

One day my phone accidentally autocorrected the wrong name for her boyfriend. Then it kind of hit me... I've seen this "tactic" a few times in movies/TV. Although, I'm not *that* interested in this girl, but would still date, so I haven't been pushing hard.

Since the mistake, I've been kind of randomly "forgetting" the guy's name -- even in person. "Oh yeah, how's John doing?" -- "It's Daniel!" -- "Right, my bad; how's that chap doing?" I'll still say Daniel every now and then, so I don't look like a complete idiot... Now when we're together, she even jokingly says "Well, what's-his-name..." or "he-who-must-not-be-named..." etc. Small seeds...

So my questions are... has anyone tried this to get around a boyfriend? And is this too diabolical?

I'd like to hear the expert view on this too.

I think this is what MM called a "boyfriend destroyer".
If she's casual with a guy and you're super attractive then it could have some merit. If she's really deep with this guy and not into you you might just seem like a dick.

Having said that... given abundance. I'd assume it's unnecessary, like a girl with a boyfriend is going to take some extra work and it's messy. Is it really worth your time?

the right date makes getting her back home a piece of cake

I would be interested as well, but I honestly don't think it would matter outside of showing you care little about past bfs
