Going to start posting these asap so they're fresh and can be diagnosed more accurately.
TLDR;
Her(latest text): I did haha. I'm gonna take time to my self for a while before I start going on dates again. I told my self I would do that starting off this year and I want to stick by it for a while. I do apologize for initially saying I would go out with you soon but I hope you understand and I appreciate you reaching out to me"

Back at the gym (the only place I am around strangers currently...), saw a girl with a great ass and knew she was who I wanted to talk to today. I've approached maybe 20-30 girls at the gym so far and only had 2 neutral reactions, the rest were positive, but nearly all were taken or too young. Almost had a more natural opening as I started using a machine by her (like actually use, I'm legitimately trying to bodybuild), but she was off while I was mid-set. My alarms went off that it was probably now or never (I almost never see the same girls again, strangely), went to go fill up my bottle, which had me cross by her, but she was mid-set and I wasn't going to linger in a main walkway. I wandered to a room, did some shoulder stretches and walked back. It was a pretty direct walk straight at her, but I was looking off at the clock until I was closer. The interaction:
Me: *makes eye contact and steps a bit closer* Hey, I thought you were cute and I wanted to come say hi!
Her: Ohh, thank you!
Me: What's your name?
Her: _____
Me: Nice to meet you ___, I'm ___. *handshake without the shake* So are you in college around here?
Her: Not really AROUND here, I'm in ___(place 10 miles away lol) for nursing.
Me: Oh yeah, that's around here haha, not like you're in _x_(far off city)
Her: *Big laugh*
Me: That isn't where _y_college is, is it?
Her: No, I know most nurses in the area go there, but I'm doing ___ program (forgot the acronym)
Me: Ahh, so you had to be a hipster and not go where everyone else is haha
Her: *Laughs*
(We talk about her program a little, and how she only needs 2 years because nurses are so in demand and I mention I wish my field was like that)
(She mentions she's from the area)
Me: Have you ever traveled elsewhere?
Her: Like states or...?
Me: Anywhere haha
Her: Oh yeah, I've been to Georgia a lot.
Me: *confused* why Georgia?
Her: I have cousins there. And funny you should mention _x_, my sister is down there.
Me: Oh that's cool! How about like California?
Her: Yes! I've been there and Florida. I might be going to Paris with my best friend in (I think March?)
Me: Oh cool! I actually was in Paris in August.
Her: *WOW face* Wow!
(This part is probably the main problem with this conversation)
Me: I don't want to say it, but I actually really disliked Paris haha.
Her: Oh really??
Me: Yeah, I went to 7 cities in 7 countries and it was the least friendly one, all the stereotypes felt true.
Her: Oh, my mom teaches English there and she likes it.
Me: Huh, that's interesting. I took French in high school and when I would be in line, I'd put together a sentence, and when I say it, they look at me like *blasé face*.
Her: Oh, my mom said they like it as long as you try haha. Maybe it's because she's a girl?
Me: Maybe it is a gender thing. They're sexist! *jokingly*
Her: Laughs a bit
Me: Hey, I don't want to keep you from your workout. *Pause* Are you single?
Her: *Big smile* Yeeeees.
Me: How would you like to grab a bite or drink to eat (fucked up the wording here lol)?
Her: *A little skittish, looks down (not at me), than back to me* Uh yeah sure
Me: Let me get your number. *tries to take my phone out, the rubber case sticks to the pocket, it goes flying*
Both: *Laughs as I grab it (calmly)*
Her: Oh! You need to be careful, I actually broke a phone here once by dropping a weight on it!
Me: Oh wow, you went too hard *smirks*
Her: *Laughs* My number is __________
Me: Awesome, and was it _a_ or _b_ (different pronunciations of a name)?
Her: ACTUALLY it's _c_
Me: *Gasp!* One strike and I'm out... *pretends to turn to leave*
Her: *Laughs*
Me: Well it was nice meeting you _c_. Oh, you have a very pretty smile
Her: Thank you!
*Exit stage lift*
So I keep working out, and she's actually still in the area (far off). I try to only glance at her occasionally, mostly staring at the clock (as I generally do). Eventually I'm doing some sled work on the turf area and she's 15 yards away doing core stuff, occasionally on her back with butt towards me, looking nice and thicc (doubt it was FOR me, but it was a nice view). After I do one particularly hard run, I'm pacing back and forth, I text her: "Hey _c_, it's ___!". I walk around the sled so my back is to her getting ready to resume, but look back and she's smiling at me, so I smile back and do my thing.
No further text response to the initial text. Texted her the next morning:
Me: Hope you survived the "snowstorm" lol, when are you free to meetup?
Her(few hours later): I did haha. I'm gonna take time to my self for a while before I start going on dates again. I told my self I would do that starting off this year and I want to stick by it for a while. I do apologize for initially saying I would go out with you soon but I hope you understand and I appreciate you reaching out to me"
*facepalm* I imagine this is recoverable, but I'm way too rusty to maneuver this smoothly, I doubt doubling down or begging would help. Maybe angling to frame things as more casual and fun? I am interviewing in a distant city tomorrow, so I may be moving away soon, not sure if that could be leveraged here. Also, this makes me think my fundamentals aren't hooking these girls enough to make them WANT me. I think eye contact is somewhat lacking, as I usually look at the nose bridge, but that carries so much less weight than looking into a single eye.
Potential next message (maybe tomorrow evening after getting back from my interview):
"Hey! Just got back from ___" "Perfect! I'm right on time to help you ruin your life goals *playful emoji*"
