genuine interest vs being polite

I have a German girl in her mid 20's who lives close to my apartments. Whenever I'm sitting in my apartment by the window I look and shes smiling(no teeth) at me when I look at her. She gives the same friendly smile when I walk past her.

The other day she saw me in the window and knocked on my door and said she was leaving back to Germany and offered to give me some supplies that she didn't want to throw out before she left.

I was wondering in general when a girl looks and gives a smile with no teeth, is this just her being friendly/polite or is it an approach invitation?

How can I tell the difference between a girl being friendly vs showing genuine interest when smiling?

You can always look for clues and hints, analyze, dissect, look for evidence, create complicated logical conclusions, seek proof that you are right or wrong - and never find out the true answer anyway...

and my advice to a friend in this same situation would be to assume attraction and just try it out, especially if she's leaving for Germany. You have nothing to lose

Always assume attraction my friend. It does so many things for you. You get to practice various types of approach, you will learn the different types of reactions girls give and you may end up with a date.

It's good to ask here, but next time don't think about it, just go find out.
